WMS selection

WMS selection at a logistics service provider

Within a logistics service provider, there was a need to structure warehouse processes. A WMS selection process was therefore a logical next step.

Objective

The objective of the project was to determine which WMS best aligns with the organization’s processes, with a focus on:

  • Supporting storage, inbound, and outbound processes
  • Improving productivity and reducing manual work
  • Availability of information for invoicing
  • Availability of management information and KPIs

The focus was on evaluating a solution in comparison to the existing spreadsheet-based approach.

Approach

The project was set up as a structured selection process, including:

  • Completion and validation of requirements and needs from the operation
  • Analysis of existing spreadsheet functionality
  • Long list / Short list
  • Supplier demonstration based on a company-specific business cases
  • Objective evaluation using a selection model
  • Cost insight through a Total Cost of Ownership (TCO) analysis

Result

  • A validated set of functional requirements and needs
  • Insight into differences between systems and the existing spreadsheet-based solution
  • An objectively substantiated supplier selection
  • Transparency in investment and maintenance costs

This provided a solid foundation for the organization’s decision-making and the further professionalization of its warehouse processes.
